What’s Good for Constipation?

What’s good for constipation? Constipation can be the cause of a lot of suffering and misery. When you are not constipated this doesn’t trouble you at all, but wait until this… um… constipation strikes! Now it’s all well and good to talk about it and hear about it, but the question remains: What’s good for constipation? What will get you through the misery in one piece?

GOOD to GO – When you need to go, don’t wait. There is a reason why you need to go, and it is not just about emptying you. For the sake of our health, it is imperative that you get rid what-is-good-for-constipationof whatever needs to leave your body and get rid of it at the first signal that your body sends you. Going at the first awareness of that signal is the best and the right time to go, and this is the most basic remedy for constipation. It’s GOOD to GO.

Drinking Water – Water is the most important nutritive to take by mouth. Even if you do not like the taste of water (yes, it does have a taste) it is still important to drink at least six glasses of the stuff per day. Why is this good for constipation? Because it softens the stool. Simple as that.

Eating natural foods – Eating natural is probably one the biggest favors that your body will thank you for. Processed foods is a definite NO if you would like to stay away from constipation. Foods such as fruit and vegetables contain soluble fiber, which keeps you regular. I am not a big fan of wheat, but at least it is better than sugar, and it contains fiber. Anything with preservatives should be avoided.

Exercise – Something else that is good for constipation is e-x-e-r-c-i-s-e. You need to s-t-r-e-t-c-h your limbs in order to get your nerves working. And nerves are heavily involved in elimination. Nerves get you bowels moving, and your bowels eliminate what should not be in your body.

Colostrum – Something that may come as a surprise to many, is Bovine Colostrum. Colostrum is the very first bit of milk that a female mammal releases to her babies. This substance contains antibodies to protect the young animals against diseases and to help with digestion. It is considered unethical to harvest colostrum from human subjects, therefore the colostrum is harvested from cows, and turned into a nutritious food supplement which helps with good gut health. And good gut health, in turn, helps with preventing constipation.

Good Gut Flora – Something that goes hand in hand with colostrum is good gut flora. These re good bacteria in the gut that keeps the bad bacteria such as E-Coli and Salmonella in check. When this system works correctly, constipation will not be frequently experienced. But gut flora can take a heavy knock when one takes substances like antibiotics and chlorinated water internally. After a course of antibiotics, it is advisable to eat and drink foods that will help restore a healthy gut balance. And a healthy gut balance means eliminating on time and not having constipation.

Blackstrap Molasses – Blackstrap Molasses may have a bad taste, but believe me, it is good for your gut. It is made from cane sugar that is boiled a few times over, and the result is a sweetish frank tasting substance that reminds of crystalized honey. The reason why this is so good for you is its high magnesium content. Our bodies need magnesium in virtually every single cell, and we need magnesium for our muscles to work correctly, including the muscles that make our intestines function. If you do not like the frank taste of Blackstrap Molasses, you may use it in tea or coffee, just so long as you do take in some two teaspoons of it per day.

Drinking Lemon Juice – Another fairly unattractive thought is the thought of drinking lemon juice on an empty stomach. Personally, I believe in drinking a mixture of one glass of water containing the juice of a fresh lemon about five minutes after waking in the morning. And no, it will not give you heartburn or indigestion. It actually works against heartburn. Somehow the acid turn alkaline, but it does work. If you struggle to get this concoction down, you may mix about two teaspoons of honey into it. This also works wonders in the prevention of constipation.

Apple Cider Vinegar – Another similar remedy is Apple Cider Vinegar. There are various health benefits to consuming Apple Cider Vinegar, one of which is the restoration of a damaged gut flora system. And a healthy gut means no constipation. I take two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water. This also works for heartburn.

Coffee – Most people are under the impression that coffee is bad for us. However, coffee in moderation is good for constipation. A cuppa first thing in the morning stimulates your bowels and gets you going even before you go to work. So who says caffeine is bad for you? It actually does have benefits too. And it tastes so good!

Epsom Salts – Epsom Salts is probably the worst tasting substance in existence. But it provides lots of good quantity magnesium. And as I said earlier: magnesium is necessary for our bodies to function correctly. That includes our digestive system.

Bicarbonate of Soda – Bicarbonate of Soda (baking soda) is also good for constipation. This versatile substance is good for constipation because it helps you get rid of a gas build-up in your stomach and so relieves the pain that is associated with constipation. It is also an alkaline chemical that will neutralize acid in your stomach, also working to relieve the pain. I hope these twelve tips help you as you work towards obtaining a better health and lifestyle.

Olive Oil – When you really strike a bad case of constipation, you may want to try some Olive Oil before you actually grabs the last resort, which is laxatives. Nature provides the best laxatives, such as Olive Oil and good old butter… and a good touch of dried fruit such as prunes could also work. Oil lubricates the intestines, and this helps them to get rid of the bad stuff.

I hope these thirteen tips on “what’s good for constipation” will help you as you work towards obtaining a better health and lifestyle.
